Pythons And Boas Under Attack

pet ball python pet snake Trying to protect pet snakes here.

Ball pythons are docile snakes by nature and pose absolutely no harm or threat to humans, children, babies or household pets such as cats and dogs. They are non-venomous and grow to a maximum length of only 3-4 feet and are in fact one of the most popular pet snakes because of these and other attributes. They are incapable of killing and consuming an adult human, child, baby or household pet and there are no records or reports of a ball python causing death to any of the aforementioned nor will their ever be.

Snakes In Valsequillo

pet snake python Pet snakes invade a snake free island.

However, in recent years, a few pet snakes have escaped in the north of the island, and - from what locals who live between Telde and Valsequillo area are saying - they’ve bred like rabbits. According to a report in Canarias7, the area (which has a lot of watercress farms) has proved an ideal habitat.

This is pretty rough. I used to have a bunch of pet snakes and I fed them mice, but this is just a hard way to go…

Thursday Thirteen

pet snakes A pet snake fan here.

7) I absolutely LOVE snakes and Turtles. LOVE them. I try to catch them when I hike and kayak. I would have tons of pet snakes in my house if I wasn't married to DH...who, oddly enough, is not a fan of the snake. Go figure.

Don't Drive Like This

pets dogs in car If you have pets in the car, think before you drive.

Courtland Page Johnson of East Naples FLA clearly thought he was cool beans, tooling around town in his retro-styled PT Cruiser, with his pet snake around his neck... until snakey took a bite out of him, and he crashed the car into some barricades. Witnesses saw the man emerge from the car and wrestle with the serpent before getting back in and driving away. Officers found Johnson at home later and charged him with leaving a crash scene and being a big goof.

Princess Tashie

pets woman with pet snake Well, not all princesses have pet snakes.

Here is Princess Tashie after her daddy gave her a bath. She allowed me to pull up her hair, but refused to be dressed in regular clothes. She wants to be a princess all day today. She also decided that all princesses have pet snakes. So she hasn’t put that down yet.

Drug Paraphernalia

pets ball python snake Of course they have a pet snake.

Mike and his friends, Danielle and Seth would be our alter egos. They smoke everything, drink everything and just live a total nonchalant life style. As we walked into Mikes house on Friday night, a cloud of cigarette smoke surrounded us. I knew immediately that my first destination on Monday would be to the drycleaner to get that smoke smell off of my clothes. We took the tour of the house and I think Gina said it best, Total bachelor pad. They have about six old couches scattered throughout, a bathroom that hasnt been cleaned since the 80s, and a big screen television that you have to hit really hard in order to get a clear picture. My favorite part was their pet snake. It was a ball python. I cant believe Im saying this, but I actually thought it was cute. As I was sitting there, holding the snake, I said to myself, I think I could see myself owning one of these some day.

Now That's Gross

pet corn snake Yep, that's really gross.

However, none of that could prepare me for the comment I heard yesterday at a business luncheon. One woman, who’s pet snakes had gotten sick at one point or another, had to puree the mice. That is, buy a handful of live mice from the pet store and (through some series of events) puree them. I didn’t have the stomach to ask for details, though I wish I had.

Flying Rodents

pet snake mouse There must be a word for fear of mice besides miceaphobia.

Did I mention that I’m scared of rats? It’s not like some insurmountable phobia where I freeze up and I can’t deal with life anymore, it’s just that I’d rather not be around them at all if I can help it. Sure, sure, little white mice are cute to look at with their pink noses and such... but rats? No way, man. And mice, as far as I’m concerned, are just fine for pet snakes’ snacks – that’s a tongue twister – though I do think differently about mice now that I’ve read the complete series to the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy a couple weeks back.

I Didn't Buy The Mouse

pets kids with rodent Good story on the trip to Petco.

My friend and I were out running some errands when she said she needed to stop at Petco for dog food. I usually avoid pet stores because I have a weakness for small furry things. I buy them, spend too much money on cages and food, and then they die.

Meow

pets adopted cat A rant about pet adoption.

On the “against” side - how the hell does the average person determine a “good loving home” for their excess pet(s)? Is it the first person to show up? The first one with a really good sob story? The first one who paints a lovely picture of their tiny daughter who has always wanted a kitten/puppy/mouse? There were discussions about how small animals are often picked up en masse for the care and feeding of pet snakes. There were animal-abuse stories posted. Someone would mention how the local Humane Society would happily take unwanted animals, someone else would argue that the HS was too expensive (both to the person surrendering and to the person who might adopt), and how they would euthanize unadopted animals very quickly. There was also the argument that animals, much like people, shouldn’t be treated as a commodity.

Eating Mice

pet snake red If you have snakes, you'll know the ending to this story.

My brothers like snakes. We have two snakes, actually. my older younger brother kyle has had pet snakes since he was about nick's age (my other brother, the 6 year old who is a genius). Well, i think right now we have like two lizards and one snake. or maybe its two snakes. actually, yes, i think it's two snakes now because a friend of my brother's gave us another one. yay. don't get me wrong, i'm not afraid of snakes by any means. i enjoy wrapping it around my neck and letting its cool skin crawl against my neck. it feels really cool. even though they are constrictors, they don't constrict humans. they aren't stupid animals, they know htey can't take a human being. especially this one.

Is That A Snake In Your Cereal?

pets corn snake According to this post, a kid found a corn snake in his cereal box at breakfast ... and that's not such a bad thing.

For heaven's sakes, it was a corn snake (and for you wits out there, no, that's not because it was a corn-based cereal). They're gentle, non-venomous, and make excellent pets. I have to buy my pet snakes, and pay shipping (which is high) for them. Why don't these sorts of surprises ever go to the people who would appreciate them?
