Pet Channel

This afternoon, Mom decided it was bath day for me. Let me just say, I hate baths; I was NOT pleased with this news. But Mom said I smelled like a dog, so there was no hope of a reprieve.

During the day they keep me in the kitchen with a child gate blocking the entry to the front room. I am making it thru the day with no accidents now but I know they are still reluctant to let me have the run of the house while they are gone. I don’t think they’re ready for that, not to mention the house! I can’t wait!!!

Nobody marked the day when I hatched from the little pink egg, and I do not recall the name of the cockatiel mother who fed me or how many of the incessantly chirping other little baby birds shared our cage. Those were relatively carefree, if noisy, days, but soon, I began to wish I had never left the egg. Some humans took me and put me in a cage, but while they seemed to like my pretty singing, they did not pay much attention to me otherwise. They filled my dish and changed my water on occasion, but nobody took me out of the cage to play with me. My intelligence and beauty went unacknowledged.

Before introducing any new pet, make sure it is healthy, has up-to-date vaccinations, and that test results for fecal parasites are negative. It is particularly important that all new cats are check for their viral titer (feline immunodeficiency virus [FIV], feline leukemia virus [FeLV]) status. Cats with positive results should not be brought into a negative household.

The Shih Tzu originates from China and was originally developed to be a lap dog and companion to Chinese Royalty. The origins of this breed date back to the 1800’s, when it was developed in China during the reign of the Empress Dowager Cixi or Tz’u-shi, which explains the origins of the name. The Shih Tzu is also known as the Chrysanthemum Dog.

At bedtime tonight I picked the book Skippyjon Jones, one of the many books we got at the book fair in November that I had not yet read (Mom’s read it to them). I LOVE THIS BOOK! Oh my goodness! This little Siamese cat pretends to be a chihuahua and has an adventure (don’t want to spoil the book!) - and they speak in ’spanglish’ (spanish and english combined) and rhyme! It’s too cute!
