Cat Fat
Click through for more adventures of Kai the Cat.
And, finally, an explanation about the first picture. Coming back from the negotiations Kai decided to celebrate his tree-climbing prowess by tucking into the specially prepared meal he found on top of the fridge. Unfortunately the sustenance found was neither specially prepared nor a meal. It was chicken fat cooling off in a foil container before being thrown out. Kai, a kitten of the messy eater persuasion, managed to coat his chest, stomach and front legs in gooey fat.

Fishy Memories
Do fish have memory?
Over the years it has been accepted that fish have a very short term memory and to that end they have been passed by for any kind of study in that field. Now, scientists are not only discovering that they have more than a three second recall, but can learn and retain experiences over long periods, notably a year and more.

Hosting Hawks
Sometimes bird feeders attract the wrong birds.
There are several bird feeders in the area, the hawks visit them in rotation. I have seen one fly through the carport of the house across the street, out the side and swoop around the house to dive on the little birds scattering away from the attack. On this side of the street, the hawk has learned he can sit in the top of the elm tree on the south side of the house and scope out the situation at the bird feeder that is on the north side of the house. Then, when there is enough activity there, he drops straight down out of the tree, flies low along the side of the house, and pops up over the fence right by the feeder.

Remodeling With Cats
Remodeling means everyone has to be flexible, even the cats.
We currently have no furniture on the first floor of our house (that is not under a sheet or pushed against the wall), so we have been living upstairs. While I realize this is probably as much room as some apartments, but when you are used to an entire house, two adults and four cats in three rooms is a tight fit.
