From a funny post on raising children, a bit about the family dog.

Being Responsible
He’s not limping or anything, but the nail is visibly split. If you were in my shoes, would you take him to the vet? I pay $19.95/month for freaking PET INSURANCE. I’m pretty sure this is covered. Or would it be overreacting and should I just yank it off myself? (Ohmigod, I’m cringing at the thought of that right now.)

Peru Trip
The Yagua people hunt rainforest animals with blowguns.
The Yahua were historically expert blowgun hunters of monkeys, tree porcupines, pacas, sloths, birds and other small rainforest animals. The darts are made of palm-leaf midrib and tuffed with kapoc fiber. They are carried in a quiver made from pleated palm leaves. A small huingo "gourd" attached to the quiver holds a supply of kapoc fiber to tuft the darts.

Knittin' Kitten
Cat memorialized in knitting.
Didn’t do much in the way of knitting this weekend. I started the second plain-jane roman sock (whee!) and pulled Seraphim out for the first time since Momoze died. I had initially intended it as a Christmas gift for my MIL, but Saraphim was the project that Momoze was helping me on and seeing how much of his fur is lovingly knit into it…yeah, I’m keeping it for myself. It’s even retained a bit of his soft, powdery, dry scent that was uniquely him.

Are Clothes On Dogs Cruel?
The question "are clothes on dogs cruel?" leads to many search results.
I just checked my (pathetic) stats for the week, and found that among the usual people looking for stuff about ‘bad rash on neck‘ (rank #2) or ‘max carlish‘ (rank #10), one user based in Georgia (the American state, not the former Soviet state) accessed thebadrash.com by searching Ask.com for ‘are clothes on dogs cruel‘?

Arizona Feeder
Simple bird feederAbout a month ago, I put a standing bird feeder in the backyard. It’s a metal pole with a decorative tray that holds a pie pan. I pour seeds into the pie pan and birds come to eat it. Squirrels and chipmunks and other rodents can’t climb the pole, so the seed (that isn’t scattered to the ground) is for birds only.

Part Of The Family
A good post on dogs and families.
When you buy, find, or adopt a dog, it should be for life, right? They are part of the family. They are intelligent, living breathing creatures with feelings. That’s why it makes my heart ache when I see good-intentioned, yet poor choices made by some pet owners.

What If ...
Hypotheticals about Diez the dog and the bird feeder.
Speaking of dog fear, I wonder about the cop that shot the dog during a house raid. I spoke with my dad briefly about it this morning. If someone walked into my house in the middle of the night and was confronted by Diezel: a) how would he react? b) could I get out of bed and control him before someone did something bad to him? I can tell you, since Diezel has his summer doggie door, the answer to b would probably be ‘no’. The answer to ‘a’ would be a total crap shoot. I worry about Diez being home all day, to which my dad poo-poo’d. “I’m here just about every day”, he said. I guess I’ll just have to keep fearing the day Diez catches a squirrel at the bird feeder.
