Cavapoo

pet dog breed cavapoo Never heard of the Cavapoo breed.

Today I started working with a wonderful little 12 week old puppy today that was of a mix I’ve never seen before and has a wonderful mash up name. This pup was a cross between a Cavalier King Charles and a mini Poodle. It’s a Cavapoo and was it ever cute!

Road Warriors

pets elephants in traffic Overseas travel often involves animal-inclusive traffic.

To make the experience more interesting the mix is enhanced by liberal doses of meatware: dogs, sleeping cows, ducks, goats, herds of sheep, hopping crows, nearly blind kittens, abandoned puppies, lumbering elephants, dashing school children, women descending from buses, porters ferrying huge loads of greenery atop their heads. They enter and leave the roads with little concern or awareness of the passing traffic, perhaps guided by a sense of pre-ordained destiny.

Looking After Cats

pet dancing siamese cat The problems of leaving the siamese cat behind during vacation.

We’ve just spent the past week in Cape Town, leaving my beloved brother-in-law to keep an eye on things at home. Which he is actually notoriously bad at - and has, as usual, not really managed to do. Usually, we return to my poor child of a siamese cat in some or other state - clenching its little cat buttocks together under the strain of a bladder infection….with a deep slash near his bum since he’s decided to impale himself on something during the course of his cat adventures.

A Cat Club?

pets malaysian cat club A fun blog on a Malaysian cat club.

To realize this, one has to refer to the Club Constitution and Objectives, all related to the aim of protecting the uniqueness of the cat breeds, creating a loving and caring environment and concern reasons but nevertheless, MCC or KKM strives towards these objectives in the form of organizing activities, amongst others:

Squirrel Stories

pets squirrel proof bird feeder Apparently everyone is looking for squirrel proof bird feeders!

I was reading Fark at lunch and I came across this story about squirrel proof bird feeders (including one that launches the squirrels). Judging by the 2,570,000 pages Google found when I searched for “squirrel proof“, there are a lot of people with the problem.

Welcome Visitor

pets rose breasted brosbeaks Something you don't see every day.

I was up at the cottage in the Smoky Mountains, and was lucky enough to receive all sorts of visitors to the bird feeder. A pair of rose-breasted grosbeaks showed up one day and stayed around for quite some time. This is the female of the pair.

Tangerine Geckos

pets tangerine gecko I've never seen a tangerine gecko in person.

I feel in love with some tangerine geckos this week. I’m debating buying them with some of the leftovers from the bonus. Given that geckos normally live about 15 years, and that these particular geckos are desert animals, whereas the regular green ones I had were aquatic (harder, much harder to care for), I’m getting the itch to own and play with lizards again.

The Birdseed Wars

pets cat bird feeder Sounds like a controversy brewing to me!

Now, I must admit that since I am a crazy cat lady, I am not really a bird person. I defend the right of an outdoor cat to have a tasty bird meal if he can catch it and would never put a bell on a cat’s collar to protect the birds. I have never owned a bird feeder and have never been too eager to have one: It just seems to me that the only “benefit” of owning a bird feeder is that you invite all the neighborhood birds to gather and leave their droppings all over wherever you put the feeder.

Symbolism

pets rattan bird cage The bird cage as political symbol.

The march will start at 3pm in Victoria Park. Participants are being asked to dress in black, as did participants in the July 1 march in 2003. A huge rattan bird cage will be carried at the head of the procession, signifying that Hong Kong's democracy is being constrained.
