Pet Week From Hell
Sorry to hear about your week from hell.
It’s pretty much been the Pet Week From Hell, or so I have dubbed it. My fish became deathly ill sometime last week and started dropping off like flies. It had come to my attention that something was wrong with my Mickey Mouse Platy. He has some sort of growth on his mouth. But, other than that he seemed relatively normal. But, it wasn’t this that so much concerned me it was the lethargy of my Dwarf Gourami. He just seemed to be floating in outer space. Yes, I know he’s in water and most likely floats, but not on his side or at the bottom of the tank on a regular basis, okay.

Doonesbury
We at Pet Channel have no particular affinity for Friskies, but we love Doonesbury.
In keeping with a recent Doonesbury comic strip, wherein Garry Trudeau-via the cartoon radio host Mark Slackmeyer-explored certain bloggers' affinity for Friskies, I salute Tigerhawk, the Blogosphere's latest cat-food connoisseur. In his response to this Nick Kristof column, Tigerhawk argues against America's obligation to stop genocide.Click through for the entire story.

Welcome To My Blog
Welcome to the blogosphere.
My passion is pets...dogs, cats, and I would love to share information with other pet owners. I am fairly knowledgeable, and would be willing to offer some limited advice on general matters. It is always best though to consult your Veterinarian and I will not ever try and diagnose medical problems...but I may be able to advise what it MIGHT be and what your VET should be considering...they are the experts though and know much more than I do. I do know quite a bit about animal behaviour, particularly cats, and have done some dog training, so feel free to ask about those areas!

Fly Away
Natural selection at work.
A nest of Carolina Chickadees hatched in our bird house on the porch. You can tell when the baby birds are about to leave the nest because the parents call out encouraging them to learn to fly. So I was ready when they came out, lest Panda find the babies first.

Jimmy Buffet Fan
We left at 10am and though our usual 5 hour drive took more than eight we were in much better shape than those poor souls who left the Island later in the day and got stuck in hours and hours of traffic. We brought all 3 cars and and filled them with clothes and things. I carried the cats with me and that was really fun. Rhett settled right down and took a long snooze, but Rafe decided to sing with the radio for the entire 8 hour drive. If you haven't heard a Siamese Cat singing to Jimmy Buffet you haven't lived.

At The Shelter
I went to the animal shelter again on Tuesday. It's probably a routine now. Popping by every Tuesday afternoon. There was another volunteer there this time. She was walking a dog i haven't seen before. A boxer. Later, i learnt his (the dog's) name was Tyson. I nearly called him Mikey, haha.

Damaged Cat
Click through for more on the pedi-ventures of Sly.
I have damaged the cat and now he is not speaking to me. Sly has been scratching at the carpet in this house. In our last house, he never did any damage. This house has a level loop through out it (terminology courtesy of my Dad). Every time Sly scratches, he does damage. Not wanting to de-claw him, I looked on-line for a solution. I found a product called Soft Claws that solve the problem. These little vinyl tips come with glue and you glue them over each claw. The cat can scratch but no damage is done.

George's Big Adventure
Nice story about George.
While there I filled out the little forms for all the drawings and we won the second place for the dog training so he gets half off the beginner's course. Hooray for us! I was really hoping for the free food for a year but I'll take what I can get.

Strange Laws
Good reason to open a tropical fish store in Liverpool:
It is illegal for a woman to be topless in public except as a clerk in a tropical fish store, or in a bank if handling foreign currency.

The Shaved Cockapoo
The cockapoo fiasco.
- We had Chewy, our Cockapoo, shaved. He spent the long weekend with my mother while we vacationed in Big Bear, and he came home with three-quarters of the twigs in the county mangled in his fur. Now he’s shaved, and the cats don’t recognize him…so this place is a fiasco.

People v. Animals
A rant on animal care after Hurricane Katrina.
Aside from the one "casualty" pictured in the set of photos on the site, the animals look to be pretty well taken care of to me. The dolphin has his own swimming pool, the cat has more shelter than many of the people in New Orleans, and the dogs don't appear to be wading through the dirty water, unlike the people who are carrying them.

It's just sad coz he's really cute and very playful... Oh well, that's how things are sometimes... I'd like to spare you guys the drama but honestly, i'll surely miss our spicwick...

Dog Training Can Be Easy!
Funny!
Sometimes, I think of dog training like a stressful negotiation with a union factory worker. Factoryworkers have a specific job and if you ask them to add to their duties, you have to negotiate with them for weeksuntil you finally break down and give them a $1.50/hour raise in pay or something. And I’ve had a few dogs that actedexactly the same way …

Intruder Alert
Cats are different when people are around.
Since our apartment gets deadly hot on sunny days (as I’ve described previously), we try to get cross-ventilation going by propping the door open slightly. We stick one of Janice’s sandals in the door and then use a 15-pound dumbbell to keep it from opening any further. Well one of our neighbor cats, Hannibal, who roams the hallway freely on a regular basis, has been managing to push the door open and wedge his way into the apartment. The strange thing is, Tobin, who usually hides whenever we have human guests in the apartment and runs away whenever I sneeze, is completely not bothered by Hannibal’s intrusions. In fact, it’s Hannibal (who is very friendly to people) who gets all hissy and ticked off, while Tobin just sits there looking like “that’s very interesting.” Ethel gets a little uppity and concerned when Hannibal visits, but she doesn’t get too ruffled either. Our funny cats.

Nintendogs
NintendogsI finally got nintendogs...and it totally rox my sox ^_^. I simply love this game (even though I am a 13 year old guy that loves death metal and happy tree friends.) from the adorable puppies and the amazing revolutionary gameplay that features amazing A.I. that reacts to what you say into the mic. I've tought my husky things like rolling over when I say "Coldplay sucks" or jumping when I say "holy crap!" and cool stuff like that. I mean, taking care of dogs like this is SO much more fun than real life (I mean...picking up poop in this game is actually FUN...unlike real life.) and your dogs can learn alot faster that real dogs (could a real dog learn to sit in 2 minutes?) which is alot more enjoyable. My dog's name is......fred. Yes, fred. It was my sister's idea and, well.... it was the only name it liked.
