100 Greatest
I kinda like the idea of The 100 Greatest Movie Dogs. And, hey, what about cats, too?
I noticed that AFI's television programming, which began with such gravitas, with shows like "The AFI Awards," and the defensible "100 Greatest Movies," now is issuing forth great gaseous poots like, "The 100 Greatest Movie Lines." Greatest to whom? Doesn't that totally eliminate some of the greatest films made, i.e., silent films? What's next, "The 100 Greatest Movie Dogs," with London bookies making odds between Rin-Tin-Tin and that dog that kept mauling James Belushi in the K-9 series? ...

Thanks for the ping. Yeah, let's not forget Benji, Lassie, the Shaggy Dog of the Disney movie, Turner OR Hooch (I forget, which was Tom Hanks?), Lady AND The Tramp . . . my favorite cat is in my favorite movie -- the unnamed tabby purring loudly through the first scene of The Godfather. The story is just so typically cat-like: the cat wasn't in the script. It lived in the location house, wandered onto the set, and Brando, cat-lover and Method actor supreme, picked up the cat and pet it throughout the scene. It adds just the right touch to the character.
Thanks again for the ping. Pets and animals are featured regularly on my blog.
